World of Storm and Fury:
Seas Around Oortesia:
Sea of Fire and Ice
The northern waters of the Sea of Fire and Ice get their name from the Northern Lights seen at night over these waters, and of course from the ice region to the north. In winter, the ice sheet extends all the way down to the Frozen Northlands, blocking sea passage for weeks at a time. With the spring thaw, icebergs calve off, floating into Horseshoe Bay, or out to the Outer Sea.
Except in the shallow regions near the Oortesia coastline, these seawaters tend to be bittely cold, and the raw winds can bite with frigidity. But violent storms on these waters are rare, the ice is normally the worst of what mariners have to contend with.
