World of Storm and Fury: Character Profiles: P-T: Pikemen
Blenfeldan Pikemen

Race: Humans
Email: Lys@worldofstormandfury.com
Age: 16+
Gender: Males (though there are rumours of women cross-dressed and joining the ranks)
Birthplace: most from Blenfelda

Appearance:

Their uniforms are colourful, yellow tunics and hose with red and black stripes. They also wear shortswords, and in combat carry long 12 foot pikes.

Strengths:

Highly disciplined, elite infantry, and a full-time force rather than militia and conscript as with most infantry.

Limitations/Weaknesses:

They are only men, and subject to all the weaknesses of men.

Magic Ability/Craft:

Normally Battle Mages would be attached to a unit deployed in the field.

Background:

These units, until recently adversaries of Lys defending Blenfelda against punitive campaigns in retaliation against raiders from the mountain kingdom, are elite infantry. Since their nation was eliminated and turned into a Grand Duchy under Lys suzerainty, the Blenfeldan Pikemen could technically be considered mercenaries, as they are employed by the Kingdom of Lys and are not considered troops of the Archduke (he has retained his Wardens household cavalry). Highly trained and disciplined, they must march in lockstep to prevent fouling their long pikes when in close formation. The sound of hundreds of booted feet slapping the ground in unison and the veritable forest of twelve foot pikes sticking in the air make these pikemen almost as impressive as an elite cavalry formation on the march. They wear colourful uniforms of yellow with red and black stripes. In addition to being trained to hold the pike firmly and stand against even heavy cavalry charges, they are also experts at mountain warfare, adept at setting ambushes from above and raining down rocks and logs on an enemy who has no means to strike back.
