Elf

World of Storm and Fury: Guides: Character Races: Elf
Elfs are the longest-lived of the humaniod races, with lifespans often extending for thousands of years. Yet, their poplation remains much less than that of the Humans, whom they resemble in many respects, owing to the rarity of offspring. Elfs are distinguished from humans most obviously by their greater height and more slender physiques, on average they are also usually stronger and more agile than Humans of similar size. Another obvious difference is the pointed ears. Elfs can live easily in climates Humans would find uncomfortably cold, adapt well to warm weather but tend to find jungle heat unbearable. They live in large numbers in Arundel (the 'High Elfs' of Arundel and the 'Barbarian Elfs' of Aardunia), Kin-Darys (mostly the 'Forest Elfs' who consider themselves long-ago cast out by the High Elfs, though Arundel shows no record of such an event), and also have sizeable communities in many of the major civilized cities of Oortesia.

With long life comes a long-term perspective on accomplishments, and a relative lack of urgency in completing projects. Indeed, their pace of work often seems glacial to the Humans; for their part, the Elfs tend to regard Humans as hyperactive drones with far too much concern about the near term.

Thus, Elfish societies tend to be made up of seemingly loosely-aligned groups of individuals pursuing diverse long-term goals. Yet, somewhat paradoxically, loyalty to the extended family and clan tends to be much stronger and more fierce than that of Humans. And so Elfish wars can be long-lasting vendettas of strike and vengeance which can take centuries to play out.
